A residence permit of this category is issued when buying real estate in Greece for a total amount of 250,000 euro or more, or when renting real estate for the same amount. In the second case, the lease must be concluded for a period of at least 10 years. The residence permit is valid for 5 years, with the possibility of subsequent renewal. A great advantage of this category of residence permit is that the spouse, minor children and parents of the owner of the property automatically receive the right to it.

• Residence permit for financially independent persons

First of all, this category is suitable for investors and persons not planning to work in Greece, as well as for their family members. A residence permit does not provide access to the labor market, but it gives the right to register a legal entity in Greece, or invest in an existing Greek business. There are several prerequisites for obtaining a residence permit of this type, the main of which is the presence of a permanent legal income of 2,000 euro per month. The document is issued for a period of two years, with the right of multiple extensions for three years.
